Good moving boxes are not just containers to throw things into. The size, cardboard strength, and packing method must match the contents inside. We don't pack books in the same size box as clothing, and for dishes, glass, and other fragile items, we use additional protection and fill empty spaces to prevent movement during transport.

For clients organizing Belgrade moves with our team, we can provide free used moving boxes currently available. These are boxes that have been used before, but we select only those that are well-preserved and sturdy enough for repacking. If the client wants exclusively brand new, clean boxes without previous damage, dust, or signs of use, we can procure them according to the agreement and the quantity needed for the specific move.

Which boxes and materials do we use for moves?

Depending on the items we pack, we combine different sizes and types of packaging:

  • 60 × 40 × 40 cm moving boxes for a large portion of standard household inventory
  • smaller cardboard boxes for books, dishes, and other heavier items
  • medium boxes for mixed household items
  • large boxes for lighter and bulkier items
  • wardrobe boxes for clothing we want to keep neatly folded or hung
  • triple-layer cardboard boxes when the weight and type of contents allow
  • five-layer boxes when greater strength and durability are needed
  • bubble wrap for glass, dishes, and delicate items
  • paper for individual wrapping and separating items
  • protective films and other packing materials
  • material for filling empty space inside the box
  • quality adhesive tape for sealing and reinforcing boxes

There is no single box that is best for everything. We choose the type, size, and strength of the box according to the contents to be packed.

Large boxes for light and bulky items

For pillows, bedding, towels, lightweight clothing, and similar items, we can use larger boxes.

Such items take up a lot of space but are not very heavy, so the larger box volume can be utilized without creating an overly heavy package.

This way, during packing, we combine different box sizes instead of trying to pack the entire apartment into boxes of one size.

This later facilitates loading as the boxes can be arranged more efficiently in the vehicle's cargo space.

Wardrobe boxes for moving

For certain types of clothing, wardrobe boxes are more practical. We use them when we want to transport suits, shirts, dresses, jackets, and other clothing with minimal wrinkling.

Instead of compressing all clothing into standard boxes, some garments can remain neatly arranged during transport.

These boxes make particular sense when the client has a larger amount of business attire, suits, dresses, or other pieces they want to move with minimal rearranging.

The guys were great! They arrived quickly, professional, polite, and it was no problem that they carried the machine into a building without an elevator. Great experience!

Three-ply or five-ply cardboard boxes?

Not every moving box needs to have the same construction.

For lighter items, a quality three-ply cardboard box is often sufficient, while for heavier loads we can use five-ply boxes with greater strength.

The choice depends on several factors:

  • weight of the contents
  • box dimensions
  • fragility of the items
  • method of stacking during transport
  • number of boxes stacked on top of each other
  • length and type of transport
  • whether the items are unpacked immediately or sent to storage

When it comes to storing items and goods, it is especially important that the packaging matches the contents and the way the boxes will be stacked during the storage period.

We do not use more expensive and thicker boxes where they are not needed, but we also do not use packaging that is too weak for contents that require greater load-bearing capacity.

Free used boxes for our clients

One of the options we offer clients are free used boxes that we have available.

If the boxes have been used before, it does not automatically mean that each can be reused for moving. We inspect their condition and only use those that are well preserved enough to serve their purpose again.

Boxes with seriously weakened bottoms, large damages, or cardboard that no longer has the necessary strength are not a good choice for repacking.

Free used boxes represent a practical option for clients who do not mind the packaging being new and want to reduce additional moving preparation costs.

New moving boxes upon agreement

Some clients simply want completely new packaging. This is especially common when packing clothing, personal belongings, business documents, valuable inventory, or items that will remain packed for a longer time.

New boxes have not been used before, have no old damages, traces of previous contents, or dirt that can appear on used packaging.

In that case, according to the agreement, we procure new cardboard boxes in the required dimensions and quantities.

Before procurement, we assess what needs to be packed so that we do not unnecessarily take dozens of identical boxes if different sizes are needed for the specific job.

How we pack dishes, glasses, and fragile items

For fragile items, the quality of the box is only one part of the protection.

Glasses, plates, cups, vases, and other delicate items are not placed unprotected into the cardboard box. Individual items are wrapped in paper or bubble wrap as needed, then carefully arranged.

It is especially important that there is no large empty space between items.

If after packing the contents can move freely when the box is lifted or carried, the protection is not complete. We fill the gaps with appropriate material to keep the contents stable.

Bubble wrap protects delicate surfaces and cushions impacts, while paper is used for wrapping, separating, and additionally filling spaces.

How We Pack Books and Documentation

Books and documentation are not particularly sensitive to impacts, but they quickly become very heavy.

Therefore, we distribute them into smaller boxes with appropriate load capacity and avoid overfilling large boxes just because they can physically hold more contents.

In business relocations, documentation can be organized so that it is clear from which office, department, or archive section it comes.

This is especially useful in company moves, as well-labeled boxes allow for much faster organization of documents at the new location.

Packing the Kitchen

The kitchen is usually one of the household areas that requires the most varied packing methods.

In the same space, we have glass, ceramics, metal cookware, small appliances, bottles, and many small items.

Therefore, we sort contents by type and weight. Fragile items are additionally protected, heavier items are placed so they don’t burden delicate ones, and empty spaces inside boxes are filled.

This way, the box becomes a compact unit in which the contents shift minimally during carrying and transport.

Boxes for Clothing, Footwear, and Personal Items

Clothing does not require the same box load capacity as books or dishes, so here we can use larger sizes.

We arrange clothes, shoes, bedding, towels, and other lighter items to maximize box volume without creating unnecessarily heavy packages.

For clothing that requires special handling, we use wardrobe boxes, while standard clothes can be packed in regular cardboard boxes.

For a complete apartment move, combining several different box sizes generally yields much better results than using only one size for all items.

Bubble Wrap, Paper, and Other Packing Materials

A cardboard box alone is not sufficient for every type of content.

That’s why we use various protective materials during packing:

  • bubble wrap for fragile and sensitive items
  • paper for individual wrapping
  • paper and other suitable materials for filling gaps
  • protective films for specific items
  • adhesive tapes for securely sealing boxes
  • additional reinforcement of the bottom when necessary

The goal is not just to place the item in the box, but that the box, contents, and protective material together form a package ready for safe handling and transport.

Labeling boxes before the move

Proper labeling of boxes saves a lot of time at the new address.

Instead of opening ten boxes after the move to find one item, we can sort boxes by rooms or type of contents – kitchen, living room, bedroom, books, clothing, documents, and so on.

Boxes with fragile contents should be specially marked so that workers immediately know they require careful handling.

For larger house moves, this system becomes even more important because the number of boxes can be very large.

Stacking boxes in the vehicle

The way a box is packed is also important because of its position in the vehicle.

Heavier and sturdier boxes are placed to form a stable base, while lighter and more delicate packages are not burdened with heavy items on top.

When stacking, we ensure that boxes do not tip over or shift during transport.

When the packaging is properly chosen and items are well packed, the vehicle's cargo space can be utilized much more efficiently, which is especially important for larger moves.

How many boxes are needed for the move?

There is no exact number of boxes based solely on the apartment's square footage. Two families can live in apartments of the same size but have completely different amounts of belongings.

The number of boxes depends on the amount of clothing, books, dishes, decorations, documents, children's items, and everything else that needs to be packed.

Therefore, it is best to first estimate the actual amount of inventory. For larger jobs, we can perform a free moving assessment and, together with other details, determine how many and what types of boxes will be needed.

It's better to have a few extra boxes than to run out of proper packaging on the last day of your move.

Boxes and Complete Moving Preparation

If you want to pack your belongings yourself, we can arrange boxes and necessary materials. If you don't want to spend time packing your entire home or office, our team can take over the job.

In that case, we don't just bring boxes. We come with various packaging sizes, bubble wrap, paper, protective materials, and adhesive tapes, and we adapt the packing method to the items we find.

From standard boxes 60 × 40 × 40 cm, to smaller and sturdier boxes for heavy items, to wardrobe and five-layer boxes when greater durability is needed – we choose packaging based on the contents, not the contents based on the box.

This way, items are properly prepared for carrying out, loading, transport, and unpacking at the new address.

Frequently Asked Questions About Moving Boxes

Properly chosen moving boxes make packing, carrying, and organizing items at the new address easier. Besides cardboard quality, it's important to know how many boxes to prepare, when to get them, and how to organize contents to simplify unpacking. Moja Selidba provides free used boxes to clients using our services, subject to availability, while new boxes are purchased by arrangement. You can check availability and arrange suitable packaging for your move by calling 0649059090.

1. How many boxes are needed for moving a one-bedroom or two-bedroom apartment?

The required number of boxes depends on the amount of clothing, books, dishes, and other small items. For a one-bedroom apartment, roughly 15 to 30 boxes may be needed, while a two-bedroom apartment often requires 30 to 50. These are only approximate amounts, as two apartments of the same size can have very different amounts of belongings.

2. Do I receive free boxes before the move starts?

We can provide free used boxes to clients organizing their move with our agency, depending on current stock. The pickup or delivery time is arranged in advance so you have enough time to pack. Before scheduling, we check available quantities and organizational possibilities.

3. Can I order only cardboard boxes without hiring the moving team?

If you want to organize packing independently, you can contact us to purchase new cardboard boxes. The type, quantity, and price of packaging are arranged according to your needs. Free used boxes are primarily intended for clients using our moving services and depend on available stock.

4. How do I properly seal the bottom of a box so it doesn't open while carrying?

The bottom of a cardboard box needs to be properly assembled and reinforced with quality adhesive tape. For heavier contents, we recommend additional reinforcement of the seams, especially in the middle of the bottom. The box should not be overloaded, even if the cardboard is good quality, as excessive weight increases the risk of damage during carrying.

5. Is it better to use several smaller boxes or a few large ones?

The most practical approach is to combine different box sizes. Smaller boxes are suitable for heavier items, while larger ones allow packing lighter and bulkier things. This way, boxes remain manageable to carry, and vehicle space can be better utilized. Avoid packing all items in boxes of the same size.

6. How should I label boxes to make unpacking easier after the move?

Write the name of the room each box belongs to and a brief description of its contents on every box. It's helpful to add labels like kitchen, bathroom, documents, or fragile. Boxes with items you'll need immediately should be marked separately. This system speeds up unloading and reduces unnecessary opening of boxes at the new address.

7. What should I do if a cardboard box gets damaged during packing?

If you notice that the bottom has weakened, the cardboard is delaminating, or the sides are seriously damaged, it is best to replace the box. Additional adhesive tape can help with minor damage but cannot always restore the necessary load-bearing capacity. Especially avoid using damaged boxes for heavy and fragile items.

8. Can I use cardboard boxes for long-term storage of items?

Cardboard boxes can be suitable for storage when they are sturdy enough, properly closed, and kept in appropriate conditions. For longer storage, we recommend higher quality cardboard and additional protection for sensitive items. Boxes should be kept away from moisture and arranged so that the bottom layers are not overloaded.

9. How do I pack a box with items I will need immediately after moving?

Prepare one or more specially marked boxes with essential items for the first day in your new place. You can put personal hygiene products, chargers, basic utensils, towels, and other daily necessities in them. We recommend keeping important documents, medications, and valuables with you during the move.

10. How can I check the price and availability of new moving boxes in Belgrade?

The price of new boxes depends on the dimensions, cardboard quality, and the quantity needed. Before ordering, it is best to specify what you plan to pack and approximately how many boxes you need. Call Moja Selidba at 0649059090 so we can check the availability of suitable packaging and arrange purchase terms.
